This grant supports an evaluation of the Foundation initiative, Improving Child Health Services: Removing Categorical Barriers to Care. The evaluation will assess the feasibility of making structural changes in child health services by addressing the following five questions: (1) What are the experiences of communities in developing and pilot testing structural changes in financing and delivery of child health services? (2) How has the use of financing changed, especially, to what extent have funds been pooled, and how was this change produced? (3) What models of care coordination were developed, and what are the early experiences with providing these services? (4) What surveillance systems have been established, and how have these been integrated into policy development? and (5) What is the preliminary evidence that children with multiple health needs have better access to needed services? The evaluation will result in timely interim and final reports intended to assist policymakers and communities interested in making health services more responsive to the needs of children with multiple health conditions.
