This research project describes the functional status, health support needs, and connections to the health care system for adults with chronic, complex conditions residing in board and care homes. The project will support expanded data collection and secondary analysis of data from a national study of care in board and care homes funded by the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation (ASPE). Specific research questions of interest to the Foundation include: (1) What is the extent of cognitive and physical health problems in this population; (2) To what extent are different types of populations mixed in board and care; (3) What services are used and what are the major service deficits; and (4) How are board and care homes connected to community services and what can be learned about their place in a system of care? Items will be added to existing data collection instruments, and additional data collection and analysis will be conducted.
