The purpose of this project is to assess the feasibility of utilizing communication strategies to curb tobacco and alcohol use among children and youth. Specifically, the grantee will produce a detailed report assessing alternative investment strategies for implementing media campaigns. To accomplish this, the grantee will: (1) conduct an extensive review of the relevant literature and current commercial advertising restrictions and policies; (2) analyze the origins and content of pro- and anti-use media messages; and (3) interview experts in academe, advertising, the entertainment industry, government and elsewhere. The product of this study will be a report on the most promising opportunities for Foundation investment.
