The Foundation's Program on the Care of Critically Ill Hospitalized Adults (SUPPORT) was designed to support a national collaborative effort aimed at enabling physicians and their critically ill adult patients to determine appropriate clinical management strategies based on predicted outcomes and on the values and preferences of patients and families. This grant provides interim funding to complete Phase I and design a planned Phase II of the Program on the Care of Critically Ill Hospitalized Adults. During this interim period, the grantee will continue to: (1) enroll patients in all disease categories; (2) systematically collect prognostic and interview data from these patients, where appropriate from their family members, and from their physicians; (3) take the lead for prognostic analyses for colon cancer and cirrhosis; and (4) participate in the design of Phase II.
