Improving Service Systems for People with Disabilities

The Foundation's program, Improving Service Systems for People with Disabilities, was designed to strengthen the capacity of community-based agencies run by and for people with physical disabilities to create comprehensive systems of services for this population.Under this grant, STAVROS will undertake the planning necessary to: (1) conduct a needs assessment; (2) based on results, help coordinate existing services and stimulate new ones; (3) determine how to expand personal assistance services to children and people with cognitive impairments; (4) strengthen preventive health education strategies for people with disabilities; and (5) develop agency financing diversification approaches, including establishment of a Housing Environmental Design and Technology unit to sell barrier free design services and home modification, and expand adaptive equipment sales and services. The Year I products will include a market or needs assessment and an implementation plan.
