The Foundation's Homeless Families Program was designed to enable communities to develop the infrastructure necessary to strengthen the potential of homeless parents and their children to function successfully.Nashville's program will make a special effort to work with minority populations doubled up in public housing projects and suffering from domestic violence. The Council of Community Services of Nashville and Davidson County will: (1) develop a team of three service coordinators to develop individualized goal achievement plans with each family and implement them with the help of community volunteers; (2) implement with the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency a housing program for 75 homeless families using tenant based certificates; (3) undertake the necessary changes in the infrastructure of Nashville-Davidson County to enable multi-problem families (not only the homeless) to access necessary services and achieve self-sufficiency.
