The Foundation's Harold Amos Medical Faculty Development Program was designed to provide four-year postdoctoral research awards offered to historically disadvantaged physicians who are committed to developing careers in academic medicine, to improving the health of underserved populations, and to furthering the understanding and elimination of health disparities.Dr. Riley began his fellowship January 1986 and completed 21 months of investigation of the isolation and characterization of enteroadherent factor of enteropathogenic escherichia coli and its receptor on human epithelium. With Foundation approval, he interrupted his fellowship for the purpose of researching the problem under the auspices of the World Health Organization in India for a period of two years. Dr. Riley now plans to continue his research at the Cornell University Medical College for the remainder of his fellowship.
