Harold Amos Medical Faculty Development Program - Ivor J. Benjamin, M.D.
The Foundation's Harold Amos Medical Faculty Development Program was designed to provide four-year postdoctoral research awards offered to historically disadvantaged physicians who are committed to developing careers in academic medicine, to improving the health of underserved populations, and to furthering the understanding and elimination of health disparities.Dr. Benjamin began his fellowship July 1986 at the Michael Reese Medical Center, Chicago, IL. With Foundation approval, he spent one year completing his clinical training in cardiology. While preparing to resume his fellowship, his investigative efforts shifted to studies on myocardial injury on experimental cardiomyopathy and a move to Duke University. His mentor at Duke, R. Sanders Williams, M.D., has accepted a position at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and Dr. Benjamin is implementing this transfer to continue his research training under Dr. Williams' mentorship.
