The Foundation's Faculty Fellowships in Health Care Finance program was designed to permit selected university faculty to enhance their research ability and expertise in the area of health care finance.The goal of this project is to conduct an empirical analysis of the determinants of hospital capital structure. Debt ratios in the hospital industry have steadily increased in recent years. This study will focus on possible causes as well as attempt to clarify the extent to which reimbursement of interest expense influence capital structure decisions. The primary objectives are: (1) collect, test and refine data from the Health Care Investment Analysts, Inc., data base; and (2) analyze results and prepare a paper for the Journal of Finance.
