This grant provides partial support for the expansion of the Best Friends Project in secondary schools in Washington, D.C. Best Friends,an activity of the Child Development Center, Georgetown University Hospital, is a special individual and group counseling program for girls in grads 6-12 aimed at imparting self-respect and responsible decision-making, including avoidance of drugs and alcohol and also postponement of sexual involvement. There are two main components of the project: (1) school-based counseling program for small membership groups; and (2) an adult mentoring program.
