This grant supports the convening a group of experts to develop and begin implementation of a strategy to improve the skills of executives in the home health care industry. The majority of these executives are nurses with inadequate training in the management sciences. As home care expands in volume and complexity, the executives' capacity to manage difficult cost and financing problems and to do strategic planning may make the difference in quality of care and possibly even viability. The NLN will to bring together a group of home care managers and educators in nursing administration and management science, to develop a plan for strengthening nurses' management skills in home care. This effort is expected to produce: (1) a position paper with specific recommendations for educating home health care executives, and (2) a strategic plan for implementing these recommendations.
