The Gustav O. Lienhard Award

This is a renewal grant to support an annual award in honor of Gustav O. Lienhard, chairman of the Foundation's board of trustees from 1971 to 1986, in recognition of an outstanding contribution to the advancement of health care in the United States through the development and demonstration of improved methods of providing personal health services that have been shown to benefit people. A panel of experts in various aspects of health care, convened by the Institute of Medicine, will receive, consider, and make recommendations on nominations for the award. The panel's recommendations will be acted on by the Institute's governing council and president. The award consists of a medal and $25,000.00. This year's award will be the fifth annual award.
