The Foundation's School-Based Adolescent Health Care Program was designed to strengthen the capacity of communities and families to meet the multiple health and health-related needs of adolescents by utilizing local public secondary schools as a principal locus of care.This is a 2nd-phase grant awarded under the 19-site national program, to provide comprehensive health services to the 1,450 adolescents at Carver Senior and Middle Schools and day care facilities for 50 infants of school-age parents. Services provided include: medical treatment, educational programs, counseling, and dental services. Medical backup will be provided by Tulane University Hospital clinic and Charity Hospital. Clinic will be staffed by a full-time project director, NP, two social workers, and a public health nurse; part-time physician and nutritionist. Dental services will be available in a mobile van staffed with a dental hygienist and a dentist two afternoons a week.
