School-Based Adolescent Health Care Program (Northside High School)

The Foundation's School-Based Adolescent Health Care Program was designed to strengthen the capacity of communities and families to meet the multiple health and health-related needs of adolescents by utilizing local public secondary schools as a principal locus of care.This is a First-phase grant awarded under the 19-site national program to provide comprehensive health services to approximately 1,175 students at Northside High School and day care for approximately 20 infants and toddlers of students at the HS. The project expects 40 percent enrollment in first year. The clinic is staffed by a full-time public health nurse, NP, medical social worker, nutritionist and clerical specialist. One pediatric physician and one ob/gyn physician hold specialty clinics. Emergency services for children in the day care component will be provided by Les Passes Rehabilitation Center. Coverage for students provided 24-hours through the Health Department, Regional Medical Center, University of Tennessee Department of Pediatrics and LeBonheur Children's Medical Center.
