Drug Overdose Deaths Exceed Car Accident Fatalities

More Americans now die from drug overdoses, in particular overdoses of abused prescription drugs, than in car accidents, according to a new report from the National Center for Health Statistics. The authors of the report found a 90 percent increase in poisoning deaths, with most of those deaths from overdoses on narcotic painkillers, since 1999. Deaths from car accidents have dropped 15 percent in the same period. Read more on substance abuse.

HUD Renews Funding for many Local Homeless Programs
