Research About Vulnerable Populations
Health and Incarceration: A Workshop Summary
Correctional health is both a public health and a public safety issue. Fiscal pressures, litigation, and judicial oversight are pushing states, counties and municipalities to look for alternatives that better meet the health needs of incarcerated populations. This report reviews what is known and what experts point to as the best opportunities to improve the health of justice-involved populations.
Health Care's Blind Side
In a national survey, four in five physicians say patients’ social needs are as important to address as their medical conditions, and that unmet social needs are leading directly to worse health. Likewise, 80 percent do not feel confident in their capacity to address their patients' social needs given existing resource and time constraints.
A New Way to Talk About the Social Determinants of Health
Over the course of four years, RWJF undertook an iterative research and message development process informed by both traditional and nontraditional research techniques. This work has helped us communicate more effectively, and we believe in sharing this information with others. In this research, we share a way to create more compelling, effective, and persuasive messages that resonate across the political spectrum.
