When the Institute of Medicine released its landmark Future of Nursing report in 2010, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) and AARP created the Campaign for Action to implement the report's recommendations relating to training, education, leadership, and workforce policy.
Since that time, Action Coalitions in all 50 states and the District of Columbia have been working to harness the power of nursing to generate real, transformational change for the country’s health care system. Each Action Coalition is helping advance state-specific priorities, and mobilizing champions from the nursing, health care, business, consumer, non-profit, and other communities.
“I do believe that nurses have the solution, and we’re on a path to get them there,” Susan B. Hassmiller says in a new video from RWJF. Hassmiller, PhD, RN, FAAN, is the Foundation’s senior adviser for nursing and co-director of the Campaign for Action.
The new video explains the Campaign’s work, and why nurses are invaluable to our changing health care system as the population ages, more people are living with more chronic illnesses, and health care reform increases access to health care services.
RWJF also produced video interviews with Campaign for Action Co-Directors Hassmiller and Susan Reinhard, PhD, RN, AARP senior vice president for Public Policy, in which they discuss their careers and how they view their roles with the Campaign for Action.
