New Connections Hosts Webinars for Network Members
The national program office hosted two webinars for members of the New Connections Network this summer. The first webinar, which took place in July, was “Discovering and Engaging Your Best Self” with Laura Roberts, PhD, which was the first in a two-part series. Her second webinar took place August 14. The program office also co-hosted the webinar “Expanding Evidence Based–Practice,” which was sponsored by the Annie E. Casey Foundation. The webinar is a follow-up to the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s presentation at the New Connections Seventh Annual Symposium in June.

Center for Health Policy at Meharry Medical College Announces 2013 Pilot Project Mini-Grant Recipients
The Center for Health Policy at Meharry Medical College is pleased to announce the 2013 awardees for the Pilot Project Mini-Grant Program. Faculty members from Meharry Medical College and Vanderbilt University have been awarded a total of $100,000 in funding. New pilot project investigators receive $20,000, and previously funded mini-grant recipients who have successfully completed their initial 18-month projects receive $40,000 to continue and expand their work. The 2013 recipients include Derek M. Griffith, PhD; Robert S. Levine, MD; Maria C. Mejia de Grubb, MD, MPH; Manish K. Sethi, MD; and Tawana Ware, DDS, MSD.
New Connections Holds Seventh Annual Symposium
New Connections held its Seventh Annual Symposium June 12–14, 2013. The symposium co-chairs were James Jackson, PhD, and Debra Joy Perez, PhD. Princeton University served as the host institution for the symposium on Thursday, June 13. Over 100 attendees heard Jackson’s plenary address, “Individual Behavior and Population Health Disparities: The Affordance Framework,” and participated in scientific sessions such as Applied Longitudinal Data Analysis. Attendees also learned about funding opportunities from representatives from the Annie E. Casey Foundation, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and the National Institutes of Health. Selected attendees participated in Speed Mentoring sessions during the Thursday reception. Also, New Connections Cohort 6 grantees were honored during an award ceremony.
