2012 RWJF Executive Nurse Fellows Include Nurse Leaders in Academia, Industry, Government, and Clinical Health Care

Prestigious leadership development program accepts new cohort.

Since 1998, the RWJF Executive Nurse Fellows program (ENF) has been preparing nurse leaders to shape health and health care locally and nationally and to help transform our health care system. In August, the program announced the 20 exceptional nurses who will make up the program’s 2012 cohort.

“Now more than ever, with our health care system preparing to care for millions more patients, many of whom are living longer but with more chronic conditions, we need nurse leaders who are well prepared to participate as full partners in this historic transformation,” said Linda Cronenwett PhD, RN, FAAN, co-director of the ENF program and the Beerstecher Blackwell Term Professor and former dean of the School of Nursing at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

“The RWJF Executive Nurse Fellows program has a proud history of building and enhancing the leadership skills of extraordinary nurses all across the country,” Cronenwett added. “We are delighted to be able to work with this new cohort. Each of our new Executive Nurse Fellows has made a powerful commitment to improving health and health care and is poised to become an even more effective leader.”

Executive Nurse Fellows hold senior leadership positions in health services, scientific and academic organizations, public health and community-based organizations or systems, and national professional, governmental and policy organizations. They continue in their current positions during their fellowships, during which each Fellow develops, plans and implements a new initiative to improve health care delivery in her or his community.

The 20 newly selected RWJF Executive Nurse Fellows—selected from approximately 150 applicants—are:

The Center for Creative Leadership (CCL) is the national program office for ENF. Each Fellow receives coaching, education and other support to strengthen their ability to lead teams and organizations that are improving health and health care. The new Executive Nurse Fellows’ work will begin in earnest in September when they meet for the first time at the CCL facility in Greensboro, N.C.
