Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Names Charles "Robin" Hogen New Vice President, Communications

Charles “Robin” Hogen, the director of strategic communications at Yale University, has been named to fill the position of vice president, communications, for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Hogen, whose experience includes having run a large corporate foundation, worked in public affairs and government affairs in the health care sector, and run his own communications consultancy, in addition to his time in academia, was selected after a national search. He will begin at RWJF on May 1.

A graduate of Yale, Hogen has led the university’s efforts to burnish its reputation as a center of excellence in science, engineering, medicine and the arts. He has also served as vice president, public affairs for Purdue Pharma; vice president, external affairs for the scientific equipment manufacturer Fisher Scientific International, Inc.; vice president, communications and public affairs for the biotech company Hybridon, Inc.; executive director, public affairs for Merck & Co, Inc.; and director, corporate contributions & community affairs for United Technologies Corporation.

While at Merck, Hogen also spent three years as president of The Merck Company Foundation, re-energizing the philanthropic efforts of the pharmaceutical company and doubling the foundation’s philanthropic budget. During his tenure, the company was awarded the prestigious Lawrence A. Wien Prize for Social Responsibility.
