INQRI-Funded Study on “Function Focused Care” to Help Residents in Assisted Living Facilities
A $100,000 grant from the Leonard & Helen Stulman Charitable Foundation will allow leaders of an RWJF Interdisciplinary Nursing Quality Research Initiative team to further implement and test a promising protocol to show nurses and other health care workers at assisted living facilities how to help residents better manage activities of daily living. Resnick and her colleagues will use a “train-the-trainer” model to facilitate adoption of function focused care in 20 residential living facilities in the Baltimore area. Learn more.
Nurse Leader and Physician Work Together to Improve Pediatric Care
The doctor-nurse collaborative at breastfeeding clinics in Michigan is a new initiative, but the benefits to patients are already evident. Two former RWJF scholars—Sara Pendleton, an alumnus of the RWJF Clinical Scholar program and Charlotte Mather, an alumnus of the RWJF Executive Nurse Fellows program—are collaborating to improve the quality of care, safety and patient satisfaction. Nurse lactation consultants bring expertise in technique and support for breastfeeding moms while physicians treat medical issues for both mother and baby. “It’s one-stop shopping to provide holistic care for our patients,” Pendleton says.
