The Foundation's program, Advancing Partners and Practice through Public Health Law, was designed to further build the field of public health law through enhancing communities of learning and practice. This project will increase the ability of selected states to use policy to improve the public's health and to strengthen the relationships among health policy decision-makers in and among these states. This pilot project derives from key informant interviews on how to improve the application and use of law and policy to improve population health. In conjunction with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), the Aspen Institute will: (1) design, organize, pilot, and assess a one-year fellowship for up to eight state teams, a fellowship experience to focus on addressing a public health issue through policy change; (2) facilitate a fellowship advisory committee; and (3) develop and disseminate case studies based on the experiences of the teams. The grantee will not use RWJF funds for lobbying.
