Summary:

The Foundation's program, Promoting Excellence in End-of-Life Care, was designed to foster long-term changes in health care institutions to substantially improve care for dying persons and their families. This grant supports a demonstration project that integrates high-quality palliative care services in the intensive care unit (ICU) and assesses its impact on the quality of care for patients and their families. This initiative builds on recent efforts by many critical care leaders to make palliative services an integral part of ICU care for all patients--those undergoing potentially lifesaving treatment as well as those who are dying.
