    Yes, proposals will only be accepted through RWJF's Grantmaking Online System at http://grantmaking.rwjf.org/qe1.

  3. What is the application deadline and late submission policy? (Answer last updated on Sep 11, 2007)

    The deadline is 3 p.m. Eastern time on September 25, 2007.  To be accepted for review, your proposal must be completed and submitted by the deadline. To be fair to all applicants, RWJF enforces a strict deadline policy. 


  4. How can I check the status of my proposal once it is submitted? (Answer last updated on Sep 12, 2007)

    We expect to receive many proposals, all of which must go through the same review process. If you have a question about a specific proposal, please send an e-mail to quality-equality1@rwjf.org. Please be sure to include the name of the applicant institution, the principal investigator and contact information in your communication.

     
  5. Do I need to submit a budget? (Answer last updated on Aug 20, 2007)

    For the brief proposal phase, you will be asked for some basic budget information. If you are selected to submit a full proposal, you will be asked to submit a detailed budget and budget narrative.


  6. What is the page limit for brief proposals? (Answer last updated on Jul 30, 2007)

    The narrative section of the brief proposals including section headings cannot be more than five pages, single spaced, using 12-point Arial font—any additional materials will not be reviewed. This does not apply to the budget section.


  7. May I include scientific and/or published references to support statements in my brief narrative? If I do so and list references at the end of the narrative, does the five-page limit still apply, or can the reference list be outside of the five-page limit, like the budget?     You may list references in support of your proposal. The references will not count towards the five-page limit.


  8. May I submit appendices as part of the brief proposal? (Answer last updated on Jul 27, 2007)

    No, if your proposal is selected as a semi-finalist, you will be allowed to submit appendices as part of the full proposal.


  9. What is the time period (start/end dates and duration) for these grants? (Answer last updated on Sep 11, 2007)

    Projects will start February 15, 2008, and depending on the topic, would last up to one or two years.


  10. How much can I request for my project? (Answer last updated on Sep 11, 2007)

    Interested applicants can submit projects between the ranges of $100,000 to $300,000 depending on the topic chosen.

    Yes, applicants can submit proposals separately for different topics when they apply.

    Yes, for this solicitation we will only accept proposals that address the areas listed under the three topics.

    About 19 projects will be funded under this grant opportunity.


  14. Can I apply to this solicitation notice even if I am already funded by RWJF? (Answer last updated on Jul 27, 2007)

    Yes, applicants that have other active RWJF grants may apply. 


  15. Can I submit a proposal that is also being considered for funding by another organization (agency, foundation, other)? (Answer last updated on Jul 27, 2007)

    Yes, applicants may submit a proposal that is being considered by another organization/foundation.  However, if your proposal was selected by both RWJF and another funding organization, you would be required to report that and adjust activities and budget so that there was not any duplication of funding.

    Yes, applicants may submit a proposal for which RWJF funds would serve as a matching grant.

    Yes, interested applicants may apply for other RWJF grants.


  19. Is there a limit on the number of brief proposals submitted by a single organization? (Answer last updated on Jul 27, 2007)

    No, there is no limit—but each proposal must be for a different project.


  20. Can multiple organizations submit a joint proposal? (Answer last updated on Jul 27, 2007)

    Yes, multiple organizations may submit a joint proposal. You will need to identify one principal investigator and the lead organization that will receive the grant. 


  21. Will I receive specific comments on my proposal after a decision is made? (Answer last updated on Jul 27, 2007)

    Due to the large volume of proposals we receive, we are unable to provide individual critiques of or comments on proposals not selected for funding.


  22. What happens after I submit my brief proposal? (Answer last updated on Jul 27, 2007)

    If your project is selected to proceed to the next round based on the selection criteria described in the solicitation notice, you will receive a request and directions for submitting a more detailed full proposal mid- to late October 2007.

  24. Will the Foundation fund private individuals? (Answer last updated on Sep 11, 2007)

    We do not award grants to private individuals.


  25. Can an applicant be from outside the United States? (Answer last updated on Sep 11, 2007)

    We do not award grants to applicants based outside the United States or U.S. Territories.  While an applicant may be technically eligible to apply if they are from an organization that is in within the U.S. or its territories and is proposing a project that is outside the U.S. or U.S. Territories, the project is unlikely to be viewed as being very competitive. There must be strong and direct relevance to the United States.


  26. Who is eligible to receive a grant under this program? (Answer last updated on Sep 11, 2007)

    While preference will be given to applicant organizations that are tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and are not private foundations as defined under Section 509(a), other types of organizations may apply. Applicant organizations must be based in the United States or U.S. Territories.


  27. How will I know that my proposal has been successfully submitted? (Answer last updated on Sep 11, 2007)

    There are three ways to confirm your proposal was successfully submitted:

    1. You will see a screen confirming your submission.
    2. If you registered with a valid e-mail address, you will receive an e-mail message confirming your submission.
    3. Log into the Grantmaking Online system with your applicant ID and password. Go to your home page. If you have successfully submitted your proposal, a message will appear in red at the top of the home page stating that your proposal has been submitted.

    NOTE: Once you have completed all requirements, you must return to the home page of the Grantmaking Online system to click on the blue CONTINUE button to gain access to the SUBMIT button.
