    The total grant amount cannot exceed $300,000. This means a maximum of $300,000 over the entire duration of the grant (up to three years).

    The budget should represent the total grant period.


  3. If I am in a partnership with several organizations, who should be the lead organization? (Answer last updated on May 2, 2007)

    Selection of the most appropriate lead organization is your decision. However, the lead organization must be a public entity or nonprofit organization that is tax-exempt under Section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code.

    No, not at this initial stage. Should you be asked to submit a full proposal you may include supporting documentation then.


  5. What does I&R mean? (Answer last updated on May 2, 2007)

    I&R stands for Immigrant and Refugee.


  6. Do I have to put I&R or Immigrant and Refugee in the title? (Answer last updated on May 2, 2007)

    Yes, this is necessary in order for your proposal to be associated with and reviewed under the Immigrant and Refugee Initiative.

    Yes.

    Yes.

    To date we have received 846 proposals.

    Up to 10 projects.

    No, this will be the last round for this particular initiative.


  12. Should I to talk to someone at the Foundation before I submit my brief proposal? (Answer last updated on May 2, 2007)

    No, it is not necessary to speak to someone at the Foundation.


  13. Is there someone at RWJF I can talk to get feedback about our project? (Answer last updated on May 2, 2007)

    Given the volume of proposals we've been receiving, and in fairness to other applicants, we cannot respond to requests to "test the waters" on project ideas. However, if you have specific content or process questions, you may email them to wyallow@rwjf.org. Questions will be addressed as quickly as possible.

  15. In the brief proposal it asks "How your project fits with the specific strategy of the team to which you are applying." What is the team; what is the team strategy? (Answer last updated on May 2, 2007)

    The team is the Vulnerable Populations Portfolio. The team strategy is to support promising new ideas that present opportunities to overcome health challenges for society's most vulnerable people.


  16. How do you determine what your target audience is? (Answer last updated on May 2, 2007)

    Your primary target audience is the people you are trying to help, but there may be others (e.g., policymakers and other stakeholders the project is seeking to engage).


  17. I already have a program but I want to add a new component to it. Does this qualify? (Answer last updated on May 2, 2007)

    It may if it is a substantial new component. Bear in mind that we do not provide ongoing support for an existing project.


  18. If part of my budget is going to provide direct services, is that okay? (Answer last updated on May 2, 2007)

    In general, yes. However, we do not provide support for direct medical services, such as doctors' fees for office visits.


  19. How will I be notified of the results of the review? (Answer last updated on May 2, 2007)

    You will be notified either by letter or e-mail.


  20. When can we expect to hear whether we're being invited to submit a full proposal? If we are invited to submit a full proposal, how much time we will have to do so? (Answer last updated on May 2, 2007)

    You can expect to hear whether you have been invited to submit a full proposal within six weeks from the deadline date. You will be given a month to complete your full proposal.


  21. If we are invited to submit a full proposal, how soon will we hear whether we've been selected for funding? If selected, when can we expect to start our grant? (Answer last updated on May 2, 2007)

    If selected you can discuss your start dates with your program officer. Program start dates rarely begin earlier than four months after you submit your proposal.
