Purpose:

Jobs to Careers: Promoting Work-Based Learning for Quality Care will support partnerships to advance and reward the skill and career development of incumbent (currently employed) workers providing care and services on the front lines of our health and health care systems. The program seeks to develop and redesign systems that support and institutionalize learning and career advancement and test new models of work-based learning.

The research grants will support applied research to inform these efforts. Research funded through this program will complement and supplement learnings from the Jobs to Careers’ implementation grants, which will fund partnerships of health and health care employers and educational institutions to promote the program’s objectives.

Eligibility & Selection Criteria:

Eligible applicants for research grants through Jobs to Careers are scholars associated with educational institutions, research organizations, health care providers or other public or nonprofit organizations. Preference will be given to public entities or nonprofit organizations tax exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Applicants may be independent of or associated with organizations currently receiving Jobs to Careers implementation grants.

Key Dates:

  • June 19, 2007 (3 p.m. ET)—Deadline for receipt of full proposals.
  • August 3, 2007—Notification of finalists.
  • October 1, 2007—Grants begin.

Total Award:

  • Up to eight grants will be awarded in this round of funding.
  • Research grants of up to $200,000 are available.
