Program Area:

Building Human Capital

Purpose:

This program fosters the development of leaders who will transform health and health care in this country. These future leaders will be equipped to work with communities and to conduct innovative research as a result of the didactic and experiential learning they receive at each of four training sites.

Eligibility & Selection Criteria:

To be eligible, physicians must:

  • Be committed to a career consonant with the program’s purposes and priorities.
  • Be highly regarded by those responsible for their clinical training.
  • Plan to complete the clinical requirements of their residency/fellowship training by the date of entry into the program (except for surgeons). Scholars may not hold appointments as subspecialty fellows during their tenure in the program.
  • Be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

We are committed to a program that embraces racial, ethnic, gender and disciplinary diversity, and we encourage applications from candidates with diverse backgrounds.

Total Award:

Up to 28 scholars will be selected in 2006 for appointments beginning in 2007. Stipends currently range from $48,000 to $50,000 per year, depending on the training site.
