Substance Abuse Policy Research Program—Round X

Purpose:

This program is designed to encourage experts in public health, law, political science, medicine, sociology, criminal justice, economics, psychology and other behavioral and policy sciences to address issues related to substance abuse.

There are three funding opportunities through the Substance Abuse Policy Research Program:

  • Projects Under $100,000—Brief Proposals are accepted twice annually.
    Brief proposals are reviewed in two cycles annually, in June and November. The next deadline is June 15 at 3 p.m. EST. Brief proposals received after the 3 p.m. deadline on June 15 will be reviewed in the next cycle. The second review cycle will be in November 2006 (date TBA in late summer 2006).
  • Projects from $100,000 to $400,000—Brief proposals for this round will be due in November 2006 (Call for Proposals available late summer 2006). 
  • Targeted Rapid Response Grants of up to $30,000—Proposals accepted on a rolling basis. For more information on this opportunity click here.

Projects supported are expected to increase understanding of public and private policy interventions to prevent, treat and reduce the harm caused by the use of tobacco, alcohol and other drugs—including the advantages, disadvantages and potential impact of these policies.

Total Award:

Three types of funding are currently available:

  • Projects totaling less than $100,000, for up to three years of funding) Studies relating to alcohol and/or drugs and/or tobacco.
  • Projects totaling $100,000 to $400,000, for up to three years of funding. Studies relating to alcohol and drugs.
  • Projects up to $30,000 for up to one year of funding. Studies relating to alcohol and/or drugs and/or tobacco.
