Allan S. Bufferd, Sc.D., J.D., was elected to the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Board of Trustees in January 2007.
Bufferd, a renowned investment adviser and manager, retired in 2006 from his post as treasurer and chief investment officer of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.) after a 34-year career there. During his tenure at M.I.T., he led the formation of investment policy and the management of the Institute's endowment and pension assets, which grew from $600 million to over $12 billion. He is a director of the Massbank Corp., RAM Holdings, Ltd., Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Adveq (Switzerland), Explorations, Inc., and Morgan Stanley Prime Property Fund. He also is a trustee of the Whiting Foundation, a director of OZ Capital, an adviser to Cliffwater Associates, a member of the Grayce B. Kerr Foundation and an investment adviser to the National University of Singapore. In addition, Bufferd serves as chairman of the Harvard Cooperative Society and of the Controlled Risk Insurance Company/Risk Management Foundation.
Bufferd is an M.I.T. graduate with an S.B., S.M. and Sc.D. in materials engineering. He also holds a J.D. from Suffolk University.
